Digital health tools are often procured and deployed with minimal real-world testing, leading to poor integration and added burden to users. To address this, while keeping pace with rapid digital change, we developed a Living Lab that measures the impact of digitization on administrative burden. The model integrates simulations, co-creation, clinical observations, and strategies for spread and scale.

Dr. Onil Bhattacharyya is the Frigon Blau Chair in Family Medicine Research at Women’s College Hospital, and director of the Institute for Health Systems Solutions and Virtual Care. He is the lead for the Centre for Digital Health Evaluation and the co-chair of the Canadian Primary Care Research Network. He practices family medicine and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto.
Lauren Miceli, Research Coordinator at Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV)
Lauren Miceli is a Research Coordinator at the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health Systems Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV), where she supports the Centre for Digital Health the Centre for Digital Health Evaluation (CDHE). Her work focuses on evaluations of digital health tools and programs, with an interest in knowledge translation and policy. Lauren is responsible for development and operations of the Living Lab initiative with stakeholders.
Nishath Uddin, Research Assistant at Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV)
Nishath Uddin is a Research Assistant at the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health Systems Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV), where she supports the Centre for Digital Health Evaluation (CDHE). Her work focuses on the evaluation and knowledge translation of digital health tools, with an emphasis on ensuring these technologies are rigorously tested before real-world deployment. As part of the Living Lab initiative, Nishath contributes to developing simulation-based testing methods of co-creation processes with clinical stakeholders, and frameworks for spread and scale.

Stephanie Fernando is a Research Assistant at the Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV), where she supports the Centre for Digital Health Evaluation (CDHE). Her work centers on evaluating digital health tools and translating findings into practice, with a focus on ensuring these technologies are thoroughly validated before they reach real world settings.
